What is Homeless Street Outreach?

Street Outreach: Meeting people where they are. Building rapport to prepare individuals for future housing and employment opportunities Helping directly with connection to and navigation of services.

Who We Are

Hearts for the Invisible Charlotte Coalition provides housing- focused street outreach for individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness while advocating for increased safe, affordable and sustainable housing.

Collaboration with local not for profit agencies, mental health and substance use providers and Mecklenburg County is a key component to coordinating services and effectively helping unsheltered neighbors with an equity and inclusion lens.

We recently celebrated two neighbors coming home!

One is a veteran in his 70s who was living in his truck. The other is a man in his 30s who has experienced episodes of homelessness for years. Today, they each have a place to call their own.

These moments remind us that homelessness is not a personal failure—it's a housing crisis. And with the right support, partnership, and persistence, housing is possible.

Every set of keys represents countless hours of outreach, relationship-building, housing navigation, and collaboration with our community partners. Most importantly - a new beginning!

This past weekend, we hit the streets with cold water, ice, and hope for our unhoused neighbors facing dangerous summer temperatures.
A huge thank you to @springwellandassoc for donating coolers, ice, and bottled water to help keep people safe, and to @projectoutpourclt for partnering with us in the field. Together, we were able to reach more neighbors with life-saving supplies and compassionate support.
Extreme heat can be deadly for those living outside, but when our community comes together, we can make a real difference.

Before hitting the streets, our outreach team is loading up everything they'll need to help keep our unhoused neighbors hydrated during this dangerous heat wave.

Want to help? Keep a few frozen bottles of water in your car. They'll stay cold for hours and can make a real difference when you pass someone outside in this extreme heat.

We're also accepting donations of bottled water and bags of ice to help keep our outreach teams stocked all week.

WELCOME HOME, MR. J!

For 9 years, Mr. J lived outside.

At 70 years old and facing serious mobility challenges, he navigated each day with a walker while experiencing homelessness. But now, things have changed.

Thanks to the hard work of Kiauntay and our outreach team, Mr. J has moved into his own apartment at Roof Above's Moore Place with.

When we asked him how he felt about finally having a home, he started singing, "I feel good."

And we couldn't think of a better way to describe this moment.

Everyone deserves the dignity, safety, and stability of a place to call home.

Mr. Kerry is HOME.

After experiencing homelessness for 12 years, he finally got housing — but after four years, a severe roach infestation forced him back onto the streets.

As a double amputee facing major health challenges, life has not been easy. But through the Beatties Ford Enrichment Project, he met our outreach case worker Brantly.

Because of strong advocacy — and because community agencies came together to support him — Mr. Kerry moved into housing just days ago… and TODAY is his birthday!

Even more exciting: stable housing means he can finally move forward with getting prosthetics.

🚲 Update on Mr. J

Because of this incredible community, Mr. J is not just working—he’s moving forward.

After receiving the tools he needed to start his new job as an electrician, there was one more challenge: getting there.

That’s where our amazing friends at @Hearts United for Good (HUG) stepped in and provided Mr. J with a bike so he can get to and from work.

This is what happens when people come together—real barriers are removed, and real lives change.
